The right wing media and their sycophants in Congress have their panties all in knots because a group called the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) has announced that it intends to make cash grants to people afraid to go to work for fear of arrest and deportation. Click on the picture above to hear some of the indignation. The issue raised in this post is whether a nonprofit’s provision of cash grants to help undocumented people hide from the ICE Gestapo violates the illegality doctrine and thereby jeopardizes the organization’s 501(c)(3) status. I think it might be a close call.
