Physician Incentive Compensation in the Heartland
Not excessive by 4960 standards, but a report suggests probable cause for private inurement and excess benefit
I hardly ever point to physician salaries when questioning whether nonprofit hospitals deserve tax exemption. I don’t think what a physician is paid is all that relevant to whether we should exempt hospitals unless physicians control the hospital. I am jealous of physician compensation but never so indignant that I think nonprofit hospitals should never be tax exempt because of it. Those who disagree might point to an alarming report from the heartland.
