Another Chance for Tax Exempt Safe Injection Sites
Third Circuit holds drug abuse nonprofit may assert a religious right to operate supervised illegal drug consumption places
Drug “feens” trying to score in Kensington.
I have blogged frequently over the last six years about a nonprofit called Safehouse. Safehouse is an organization trying to find solutions to an ugly drug epidemic manifesting in one of the largest and most sickening open air drug markets in the country. It wants to open and operate a “safe injection site,” but has been thwarted by DOJ since 2019. Last week, Safehouse won a significant victory in the Third Circuit which could finally allow it to proceed. The Court ruled that Safehouse may assert a religious right to operate its site even though it is a medical rather than a religious organization.
